Beechings Folly, The Lake District, Illustrated Sign Artwork

The artwork would be used primarily as a sign for the newly refurbished Beechings Folly Bed and Breakfast in Keswick (The Lake District). The property is the Old Station Master’s House, close (obviously) to the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway at Keswick.

Initial sketches were made to establish composition, with a carefully chosen colour palette, presented to the client to ensure, that at the earliest stage, they were happy that the general feel was heading along the right track (yes that pun was intentional). Scanning the final sketch and working over this with Adobe Illustrator to create areas of flat colour, from the range of colours chosen.

To finalise the artwork the typography was very important, to ensure a firm reflection of the British Railway Posters of the 40s and 50s. The font is the sans-serif typeface Gill Sans.
